Cypress Hills
A family camping trip to the Cypress Hills in Fall 2021 with my mom and sister is the inspiration for this series.
Elkwater Lake
The surreal and beautiful lines of the shore, Elkwater Lake, the coulees rising behind the water, and the sky put me in mind of weaving. Whenever possible I try to use materials on hand, and not having yarn in the many colours of Elkwater Lake I turned to a box of embroidery thread I inherited from my father. This allowed me to create the tapestries in miniature to match the photos, and is a nice remembrance of my dad who loved painting the landscapes of Alberta.
